Primrose Bed & Breakfast is located near the Shropshire Union Canal. You can find out about hiring or buying boats and barges, navigating nearby canals and even local pubs along the waterside at waterscape.com.
For fishing, the Canal has a good stock of roach, perch and gudgeon with bream in the wider lengths and winding holes. Large carp can be found at any location but seems to prefer the Middlewich Branch where they grow to over 20lb. Tench are present between Chester and Ellesmere Port and unexpected fish can include chub, dace and even flounders. The Waterscape website gives details of licences and local angling clubs.
Just down the road is a new Aqueduct Marina which has 147 berths and a boatyard. Primrose Cottage is an ideal location to stay if you need a night away from your boat. The Marina's website even has a live webcam so you can check out the weather before heading out.
A bit further away, the Anderton Boat Lift 'The Cathedral of Canals' is worth a trip, with or without a boat. The lift was originally built in 1875 and has an exhibition explaining the history and workings. The lift is on the Trent and Mersey Canal approximately three miles from Northwich.
